A Profession of Faith

For Catholics, standing up and professing their belief in God is as basic as breathing. At every Sunday Mass, Catholics make the profession of faith, which begins with the words: “We believe ….”

If you break down the profession of faith—also known as a creed—line by line, you will discover the entirety of the Catholic faith summarized for you in prayer form. There is nothing incidental or superfluous about it.

In the coming chapters, we will study and reflect on the words of the Apostles’ Creed, one of two pivotal professions of faith in the Catholic Church, so that you will know exactly what Catholics mean when they say, “We believe ….”
