ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Chris Algieri is a professional boxer and kickboxer who held the World Boxing Organization (WBO) junior welterweight boxing title, the International Sport Karate Association (ISKA) world welterweight kickboxing title, and the World Kickboxing Association (WKA) world super welterweight kickboxing title during his more than 15-year professional career.

Chris has appeared on HBO, NBC, Showtime, Spike, and ESPN as a fighter and commentator. He’s currently working toward another world boxing title to accomplish his goal of being a multiple-time world champion in two different sports.

Chris established himself as the “Pride of Huntington,” fighting in Long Island, New York—just miles from his hometown of Greenlawn—at The Paramount in Huntington, selling out the venue nine consecutive times. In 2014, he defeated defending champion Ruslan Provodnikov for the WBO junior welterweight title—considered by The Ring magazine to be the upset of the year.

This victory led to the biggest fight of his life: In only his 21st professional boxing match, Chris moved up to the welterweight division to fight Manny Pacquiao for the WBO title. Although he lost that fight, he gained a lot of respect in going 12 rounds with the future Hall of Famer.

Outside the ring, Chris graduated from Stony Brook University with honors in May 2007 with a bachelor’s of science in health care management and then went on to receive his master’s degree from the New York Institute of Technology. He’s certified as a sports nutritionist (CISSN) through the International Society of Sport Nutrition (ISSN).

Chris has worked closely with Stony Brook University as a consultant to the athletic department, helping develop a performance nutrition program for athletes and coaches. He has worked with nearly 500 Division I athletes from 16 different sport teams. He also speaks at various sports performance conferences and seminars.
