A significant amount of the standard C library (glibc), code is not thread-safe. What? one asks. But, hey, a lot of this code was written back in the 1970s and 1980s, when multithreading did not exist (for Unix, at least); thus, one can hardly blame them for not designing it to be thread-safe!
