Part III

Lessons for Change Managers

There are two main principles that lead to successful change management. The first is to do the right thing, and the second is to avoid doing the wrong thing. Part II identified many examples of actions taken in the course of change management initiatives that are almost certain to lead to failure. To be successful in light of these mistakes is to avoid repeating history and to not take these actions. In Part III positive steps are identified that, if followed, increase the chances that outcomes sought in change initiatives will be met. This examination of positive action begins with the concerted effort to definitively understand the underlying issues so that the change initiative is more likely to solve the right problem.
