Board or Panel Interviews

Board or panel interviews are similar to group interviews, except that a board may serve as the hiring authority and exercise supervision over the candidate once he or she has been hired. A panel is a group of individuals who have been specifically selected for a group interview assignment, rather than convened ad hoc by an overworked interviewer.

Strengths In addition to the strengths listed for the group interview, the candidate will have the opportunity to see who his or her bosses will be.

Weaknesses The weaknesses are identical to those listed for the group interview. Occasionally, when interview panels are used, their members may feel less than enthusiastic about participating in a process that does not seem to directly affect them. Panel member defections should therefore be expected and managed accordingly.
