Section 2

Jump On!

After learning the basics discussed in the first section of this book, you are ready to think about specific tasks you want to accomplish using JMP scripting. Typically, when users contact JMP Technical Support with scripting questions, the questions are in the form of, “How do I do this or that in a script?” Or, “I need an example that shows me the syntax to get this done.”

Therefore, we have dedicated this section of the book to those of you who want to find a good example of how to do something in JSL. Here, you will find over fifty examples on a variety of topics that are divided into five categories:

        Rows, Columns, and Tables

        Dialog Windows

        Analyses

        Graph Components

        Reports and Journals

Each example answers a question with a script sample, including embedded explanatory comments. In addition, the examples include discussion to explain functions in detail or give helpful references when necessary. Finally, there are plenty of images, so you can see what should happen before you try yourself. These script samples can be copied and pasted into a script window and executed immediately using sample data tables to show you exactly how the solution works.

As you look through the examples, you might notice that there are multiple ways to accomplish the same task. The methods we use assume that you are a beginning scripter, and thus few advanced methods are demonstrated. As you become more proficient in your scripting, we encourage you to experiment with your code.

          Enjoy!
