About the author

Professor Malcolm Prowle currently holds academic positions in several UK universities. He is an academically and professionally qualified accountant (CIPFA, ACCA) and has extensive experience of strategy, financial and economic analysis, and performance management in both private and public sectors.

This was gained by wide-ranging experience (in the UK and overseas) of senior financial management posts in several public sector organisations, management consultancy positions with two major international consulting firms (KPMG and PWC) and academic posts at the Universities of Warwick, Wolverhampton, Gloucestershire and Nottingham Trent.

He has worked at the highest levels of government and has advised Ministers, Ambassadors, senior civil servants and public service managers on various issues. He has been financial adviser to two House of Commons Select Committees, adviser to two Shadow Ministers and a consultant to the World Health Organisation. He has spoken and presented papers at a wide range of events and conferences including that of the Prime Ministers Policy Unit, the Government Accounting Service, the CBI, the World Health Organisation, Welsh Government as well as academic and professional conferences.

He has over 80 publications to his name. This includes seven full-length books, three book chapters, numerous research reports and papers in both academic peer-refereed and professional journals. He has co-published several published reports for CIPFA.
