Creating a Special Purpose Map

Special maps for operational use may be created using carefully crafted map filters. Administrators of print servers want maps that show only printers and print servers. Assuming the topology database contains the desired devices, you can create a custom map for these administrators with little pain, although you may want them to customize its appearance.

Other user classes may be satisfied with standard maps if only certain devices are hidden from view. You can make them a map by locating all objects with the appropriate attributes, selecting the highlighted icons, and hiding them all at once.

Your local help desk may prefer to have several maps available to them. Suppose your help desk is physically consolidated at one or two sites and gets calls from anywhere in the country. To gather information from a user with a problem in Chicago, only an NNM map of that location is needed. Create such a map by simply hiding the outlying topology for Denver and Detroit even though those areas are in the management domain.
