Management Station SNMP Data Collection

The management station does not import the SNMP data collected and stored at the collection stations. Threshold events are propagated from the collection station to the management station. To see the actual data that led to the threshold event, start an ovw session on the appropriate collection station, locate the device of interest on the map, and launch the grapher.

There is no technical reason why the management station cannot be configured to collect historical SNMP data itself. This means network devices are polled multiple times per polling cycle (once by the collection station and once per management station). For example, if only routers are exported, then the management station only polls routers.

If the management station also checks performance thresholds, then both the collection station and the management station will generate a threshold event, probably at different times within the five-minute polling cycle, and with different values. This is to be expected since the polling cycles are not synchronized.
