Interface Information

Open any device submap and you will see all its interfaces, both physical and logical. A right click brings up the usual configuration menus revealing port, slot, or IP address information. The bitmap inside the interface icon indicates the type of interface. For example, a bitmap bearing the letter IP means the interface has an IP address configured.

Not all interfaces have IP addresses. It’s not uncommon for a point-to-point interface between routers to be unnumbered. This saves a whole IP subnet, an important consideration in situations where subnets are in limited supply. Switch, bridge, and repeater interfaces don’t have IP addresses, but the device itself has a pseudo-interface configured with one. This interface is visible when the device submap is opened. Note that if secondary addresses are configured, each will show up as a separate interface symbol.

To view the interface details of a device, use the Network Configuration:Interface Properties menu. A table shows the interface index, name, maximum transmission unit (MTU), and status. The menu Network Configurations:IP Addresses is also useful.
