About the Artists

ASANTE SALAAM is a galaxy of artistry born, raised and rooted in New Orleans. The stars already shining in her galaxy include sketcher, painter, mixed media collagist, artist’s book maker, assemblage sculptor, writer and printmaker. As an artist, holistic wellness practitioner and life coach, Salaam aids people in pursuing dreams, taking informed risks, manifesting new realities, and adopting practices to live a juicier life. Asante holds a BFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. She has been featured in publications including Oprah Winfrey’s “O” Magazine and is based in New Orleans.

Asante and Meg met through a mutual colleague in post Katrina New Orleans. Communicating and working long-distance, Asante created the original paintings to illuminate Meg’s writing and the Hopi prophecy. Asante’s abundant artistry can be enjoyed at www.AsanteSalaam.com.

BARBARA BASH is a calligrapher, author, illustrator and performance artist living in the Hudson Valley of New York. Studying Dharma Art with Chögyam Trungpa and Chinese pictograms with Ed Young, she became interested in the joining of Western calligraphy with Eastern sensibility. During this time she began working with large brushes, exploring what makes a mark alive.

Barbara has written and illustrated a number of books on natural history for children and adults, among them Desert Giant: The World of the Saguaro Cactus; Urban Roosts: Where Birds Nest in the City; Shadows of Night: The Hidden World of a Little Brown Bat. Her most recent book is True Nature: An Illustrated Journal of Four Seasons in Solitude, written out in her own hand.
