Chapter Twelve. Component Development: In-Depth Discussion

This chapter, as its name suggests, is dedicated to a closer and more detailed discussion of component development. In this chapter, we present two new types of PerlNET components: .NET types and Mixed types. While these two types have much in common, there are some differences in their capabilities and usage that we explain in this chapter. Next, we look inside assemblies with the help of the ILDASM tool to better understand the underlying principles of component development. Then, we cover .NET inheritance issues. Interfaces are an important part of the .NET environment, and we dedicate a section of this chapter to examining them. Finally, the secrets of exceptions and error-handling mechanisms are revealed. The chapter presents a rich set of examples to help you get on track with component development issues.
