Chapter 9. The Rights of Copyright Owners

Copyright owners have a variety of exclusive rights under federal law, including the right to reproduce their works, prepare derivative works based on the copyrighted work, distribute copies of the work by sale or lease, perform the work, and display the work. Although there are a number of limitations and exceptions, in general a violation of any of these exclusive rights is copyright infringement.
