CREATIVE LOOKS
MENU > Exposure/Color > Color/Tone > Creative Look
This feature allows you to adjust Contrast, Highlights, Shadows, Fade, Saturation, Sharpness, Sharpness Range, and Clarity for each Creative Look.
There are 13 Creative Looks: ST (Standard), PT (Portrait), NT (Neutral), VV (Vivid), VV2 (Vivid 2), FL (Moody), IN (Matte Texture), SH (Bright Vivid), BW (Black and White), SE (Sepia). You can also register your preferred setting for six styles.
Note: You cannot adjust the saturation for the Black and White or Sepia Creative Looks.
FLASH MODES
MENU > Exposure/Color > Flash > Flash Mode
Flash Off: The flash will not fire.
Autoflash: The flash fires when the camera thinks there is not enough light.
Fill-flash: The flash fires every time you press the Shutter Release button.
Slow Sync: The flash fires every time you press the Shutter Release button. The camera uses a slower shutter speed in order to allow the ambient light to illuminate the background.
Rear Sync: The flash fires right at the end of the long exposure, making for more natural-looking motion trails of your subject (such as a person walking or a moving vehicle).
CUSTOM WHITE BALANCE
Custom White Balance helps you get the best color when you’re shooting under mixed lighting conditions.
1. Select MENU > Exposure/Color > White Balance > White Balance> Custom 1 (or 2 or 3), then press the right side of the Control Wheel.
2. Select Set (custom white balance set), then press the center of the Control Wheel.
3. Hold the camera so the circle in the center of the screen is over the area that you want to base your white balance on, then press the center of the Control Wheel. The shutter release will sound and the message “Captured the custom WB data” will be displayed, letting you know the camera has calibrated values for Color Temperature and Color Filter.
4. Press the center of the Control Wheel to lock in the custom White Balance. That setting will remain memorized by the a7 IV until it’s overwritten with a new setting.
COLOR SPACE
MENU > Shooting > Image Quality > Color Space
sRGB: Smaller color space. Best when images are used directly from the camera without modification or post-processing.
Adobe RGB: Larger color space. Best used when images will be edited later with post-processing software.
Note: The color space setting is invalid if you are using the HEIF format.
NOISE REDUCTION
MENU > Shooting > Image Quality > Long Exposure NR Long Exposure Noise Reduction minimizes noise in images shot with long shutter speeds. It doubles the time needed to take each photo.
MENU > Shooting > Image Quality 1 > High ISO NR
High ISO Noise Reduction minimizes noise in images that are created with high ISO settings. Use Normal for default, Low for less noise reduction, or Off for no noise reduction. When the file format is set to RAW, this function is not available.
ZEBRA DISPLAY (HIGHLIGHT WARNING)
MENU > Exposure/Color > Zebra Display
A zebra pattern allows you to see if a part of the image is being overexposed, which might indicate you need to adjust your exposure settings. You can choose to show the display (Zebra Display) and can adjust the brightness of the pattern (Zebra Level).
AUTO ISO
Select ISO on the Control Wheel, then select ISO AUTO.
To set the range of ISO values AUTO ISO uses go to Menu > Exposure/Color > Exposure > ISO > ISO AUO, then press the right side of the Control Wheel to set values for ISO AUTO Maximum (the highest ISO the camera will use) and ISO AUTO Minimum (the lowest ISO the camera will use).
D-RANGE OPTIMIZER
MENU > Exposure/Control > Color Tone > D-Range Optimizer
The a7 IV analyzes the contrast in the scene and tries to optimize the brightness and gradation of tones across the exposure. Select from DRO Auto (for an automatic adjustment) and D-Range Optimizer: Lv1–Lv5, which allows you select optimization levels from weak (Lv1) to strong (Lv5).
BRACKETING
Exposure Bracketing: Select Drive mode on the Control Wheel, then select Cont. Bracket.
Set the desired settings (for the exposure value shift, etc.) using the right/left side of the Control Wheel. The a7 IV will capture multiple images while automatically shifting the exposure from the base exposure to a darker image and then to a lighter image.
Note: If you’d like to capture each exposure with a separate press of the Shutter Release button, select Single Bracket Drive mode.
White Balance Bracketing: Select Drive mode on the Control Wheel, then select WB Bracket.
The a7 IV will shoot a bracketed set of three images, each with different color tones. Select Lo or Hi based on how small or large you’d like the white balance changes to be across the series of bracketed images.
D-Range Optimizer Bracketing: Select Drive mode on the Control Wheel, then select DRO Bracket.
The a7 IV will record a series of three images with different degrees of D-Range Optimizer values. Select Lo or Hi based on how small or large you’d like the D-Range Optimizer values to be across the series of bracketed images.
WIRELESS CONNECTION
Use the Imaging Edge Mobile smartphone app to control the a7 IV from your smartphone or to transfer images from your camera to your smartphone.
1. On the camera, select MENU > Network > Smartphone Connect > Smartphone Regist.
2. Follow the instructions on the screen and set Bluetooth Function to On, and the pairing screen will appear. (If Bluetooth Function is already set to On, the pairing screen will appear immediately.)
3. Launch Imaging Edge Mobile app on your smartphone and select the product name of the camera (ILCE-7M4).
4. On the smartphone screen, select Camera Connection/ Registration, then select the Pairing button next to the camera name (ILCE-7M4) and follow the instructions on the screen.
5. Select OK on the Bluetooth connection confirmation screen on the camera. The camera and the smartphone will be paired allowing camera control and image transfer.
RESET CAMERA
MENU > Setup > Reset/Save Settings > Setting Reset Select Camera Settings Reset to reset the main shooting settings to their defaults. Select Initialize to reset all settings to their defaults.
