Overview of Authors and Researchers

Authors

Steven ten Have, PhD, is a full professor of strategy and change at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, the Netherlands; chair of the Foundation for Evidence-Based Management; and partner at TEN HAVE Change Management.

John Rijsman, PhD, is a full professor of social psychology at Tilburg University, the Netherlands. He obtained his PhD in experimental social psychology from the University of Louvain in 1970, and, after a short stay at the University of Southern Illinois, was asked in 1972 to become chair of social psychology at the new faculty of psychology in Tilburg, where he has stayed ever since. The first part of his career was devoted entirely to experimental social psychology, but over the years he became more and more interested in the tacit knowledge of experienced practitioners in complex professional domains, leading to more and more PhD research with advanced reflective practitioners in these domains, more than sixty of which have obtained faculty positions at various universities in the world, or otherwise important positions in society. The basic aim of that endeavour, as also exemplified in this book, was and is to better understand and better act in a complex societal world by combining fundamental insight with highly developed practical experience. Rijsman was Editor in Chief of the European Journal of Social Psychology, Associate Editor of the European Journal of Psychology of Education, member of the review board of many other national and international journals, and often asked by the Dutch Royal Academy of Sciences to act as a reviewer of grant applications for fundamental research. His own work, apart from the work with his PhD students, is published in several articles or chapters of books, and is mostly about the social construction of meaning by coordinated interaction with other subjects, and especially the social construction of the meaning of Self in comparison with that of Others, and all its consequences (see also this book).
