About the Authors

An author, columnist, consultant, and popular speaker for two decades, WILLIAM D. EGGERS is a leading authority on tackling big societal challenges. As a global director at Deloitte Research, he is responsible for research and thought leadership for Deloitte’s public sector industry practice. (Deloitte Research is a part of Deloitte LLP).

Eggers’s seven books include the Washington Post best-seller If We Can Put a Man on the Moon: Getting Big Things Done in Government, Government 2.0, Governing by Network, and The Public Innovator’s Playbook. His writings have won numerous awards including the Louis Brownlow Book Award for best book on public management, the Sir Antony Fisher International Memorial Award for best book promoting an understanding of the free economy, and the Roe Award for leadership and innovation in public policy research.

A former manager of the groundbreaking state government audit, Texas Performance Review, Eggers has advised governments around the world. His commentary has appeared in hundreds of major media outlets including the New York Times, the Wall Street Journal, and the Washington Post. PAUL MACMILLAN grew up in Canada’s national capital, where he studied public administration at Carleton University and earned an MBA from the University of Ottawa. He has been a management consultant and strategic adviser to government leaders for over twenty-five years. As the global industry leader in the public sector practice at Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu, Macmillan is responsible for the firm’s leadership of complex innovations in government organizations around the world. He writes and speaks frequently on topics such as government innovation, public accountability, and advanced analytics.

Macmillan is a founder of the Institute of Public Administration of Canada (IPAC)–Deloitte Public Sector Leadership Awards, which recognize organizations that have achieved bold advancements in public policy and management in Canada. He is also a member of the board of directors of Bridgepoint Active Healthcare in Toronto. Macmillan has contributed his expertise to the OECD Observatory of Public Sector Innovation as a member of its Associate Group.
