Chapter 5

1 The semantics of “subsystem” changed in UML 2.0. Prior to UML 2.0, a subsystem was a package that exposed a number of operations. In UML 2.0 the notion of “package” was dropped from “subsystem.”

Chapter 6

1 The model-view-controller design pattern, also known as Model 2 in J2EE application programming, is a well-established design pattern for programming. The model maintains the data, the view displays all or a portion of the data, and the controller handles events that affect the model or view.

2 Some levels of Rational Software Architect will require you to click on Configure Advanced Options prior to enabling the Finish button.

3 This will be referred to as “drag and drop” for the remainder of this chapter.
