8.9. Tools and Approaches

The tools and processes we covered in this chapter were largely unlike those discussed in previous chapters. That is, most of the key tools are actually paperbased logical processes rather than strictly softwarebased utilities. These preparationoriented processes include simple paperbased project plans, execution checklists, and so on. Despite their lowtech nature, though, the value these processes bring to the table is unquestionable, so much so that I created custom versions of the following “tools,”which may be downloaded from the ftp site:

  • A sample strawman project plan, or reusable general template for stress testing and project planning

  • A sample customized test plan template, specifically customized for a particular testing project or TU

  • A sample execution checklist template, useful in executing the necessary step-by-step processes inherent to a repeatable stress test

Now, onward to the next chapter, where we take a closer look at the kinds of input necessary to pull off a successful stress test!
