Hackerspaces and Makerspaces

Hackerspaces and makerspaces are mentioned throughout the book. Fab Lab and TechShop are also terms associated with hackerspaces or makerspaces. A hackerspace is a physical community space or a creative workers’ co-op. Tools, materials, and training are provided for a monthly fee. The learning at these spaces is self-directed. Even the White House is involved in the maker movement (www.whitehouse.gov/maker-faire).

STEAM Education

The STEAM educational initiative is an interdisciplinary practice of the incorporation of science, technology, engineering, art, and math. The STEAM movement began with the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD). You can learn more about STEAM at http://stemtosteam.org.
