Summary

Ostensibly, ADO.NET and ADO provide similar functionality: Each provides an object model for retrieving and manipulating data. In addition, the object models provide some similar objects: Connection, Command, and DataSet objects, for example. Under the covers, however, the two object models are really quite different, with ADO.NET directly focused on creating distributed, multitier applications.
