Summary

Ostensibly, ADO.NET and ADO provide similar functionality: Each provides an object model for retrieving and manipulating data. In addition, the object models provide some similar objects: Connection, Command, and DataSet objects, for example. Under the covers, however, the two object models are really quite different, with ADO.NET directly focused on creating distributed, multitier applications.

In this chapter, you were introduced to the following subjects:

  • The many different ADO.NET classes

  • Namespaces used to work with data from data sources

  • Examples of how to use some of the ADO.NET classes

  • The benefits of using ADO.NET
