Acknowledgments

There are a number of people I want to thank for all their help in putting this book together. First and foremost I need to thank my wife for being so supportive while I was writing this book. Not only has she put up with me during this time, but she has also read through every page time and time again checking that everything made sense.

The web development community as a whole has been really supportive of me writing this book. Although I can’t possibly mention everyone individually, in particular there are a few developers who have helped so much they deserve a special thanks. First, I thank my technical reviewer Daniel Grant, who has been really good at providing solid feedback. He went above and beyond what I would expect, taking time to read the relevant specifications to ensure the accuracy of the book, and his knowledge of the subject area really helped add value to the book.

Second, I thank Patrick Hamann whose talks on web performance were really helpful in ensuring nothing was missed when it came to me writing the chapter on performance. In addition, he was really helpful in answering any additional queries I had. Third, I thank Natasha Rooney, whose talk on how the mobile phone networks affect web performance really helped me understand how these networks can influence the performance of a web site. I also thank her for the feedback she gave me on the explanation I wrote about mobile phone network performance.

Finally, I thank the team at Apress who have been really patient with me as I have made change after change to the book. In particular I want to thank both Christine Ricketts and Louise Corrigan who have worked closely with me with the aim of making this book the best it can be.
