Well, how was it?

I hope you enjoyed the book. I hope you found something you could use. Better yet, I hope something within the book has sparked you to go further.

I’ve had a metal picture of most readers beating through this book, closing the back cover, laying it on top of the pile and asking, “What’s next?”

Well, what’s next is up to you. If you’ve gotten through this book and truly understand what’s inside, you probably are fairly well versed in HTML and not too bad in JavaScript.

OK, what’s next?

What’s next can be answered by looking to the Web you’re writing for. The best hint I can give to help you pick your next direction is to look at the extensions on the Web. I believe those are the best indicators of what’s to come.

Are you seeing a lot of ASP extensions? How about that? Maybe that’s your next direction. How about XML? Look not only at the extensions of the pages but also at the elements contained within the pages. Flash, streaming video and audio of every kind, images, Perl, or any number of server programming formats are all fodder for new directions.

Take my word for it: Those who work the Web will continue to come up with new formats and new languages or advance those that are already in use so often that you could pick any path and become consumed just the same way as Web design first consumed you.

You’re at the advanced level in this area. Maybe it’s time to start at the primer level of a new area.

I’m actually taking the time to read up on the laws associated with the Web.
