I’ve provided blank copies of the Field Specifications sheet, Business Rule Specifications sheet, and View Specifications sheet here for you to copy and use on your database projects.
The example field specifications sheet consists of three parts namely general elements, physical elements, and logical elements. General elements require data such as field name, parent table, aliases, shared by, description, specification type, and source specification. The physical elements require data such as data type, length, decimal places, and character support. Logical elements require data such as key type, key structure, uniqueness, null support, values entered by, required value, range of values, and edit rule.
The example business specifications sheet consists of three parts namely rule information, structures affected, field elements affected, relationship characteristics affected, and action taken. The rule information requests data such as statement, constraint, type, category, and test on. Structures affected requires data such as field names and table names. Field elements affected requires data such as physical elements, and logical elements. The relationship characteristics affected part includes checkboxes for deletion rule, type of participation, and degree of participation. The action taken part is left empty, to be filled.
The example view specifications sheet is presented in four parts. The first part requires general information such as name, description, and type. The second part presents the base tables. The third part presents calculated field expressions such as field name and expression. The fourth part presents filters such as the field name and condition. Spaces in dotted lines are given to be filled for the third and fourth parts.
