About the author

For more than 25 years, I have been inspiring delegates across the globe by assisting them in understanding and developing their emotional intelligence. I have helped them to improve the quality of the impact they have on their own and other peoples’ lives.

This book follows many years of empirical study within the field of behavioural science and neuro-emotional intelligence. I have combined aspects from neurology and sociology with elements of business and organisational learning, executive coaching, training, neuro-linguistic programming (NLP), and even from the more contemplative parts of my life using martial arts like Aikido and Tai Chi!

I have drawn much of my knowledge and the techniques I share from working with experts, or senior influencers, across the broad sectors of industry and commerce, social and business networks, as well as from professors, master practitioners and teachers from across an even bigger pool of specialisms.

Many influencers have helped nurture my emotional intelligence, far too many for me to detail here, yet all of whom I am indebted to for the input and support they have afforded me throughout the years.

Following extensive research with more than 700 global leaders in 2006, I developed an emotional assessment methodology which helped to identify the critical elements of emotional intelligence found principally in people who demonstrated exceptional leadership capability.

Several global businesses later adopted this new methodology as a way of identifying and then further developing their future leaders. I have based my writing on many of these initial concepts.

However, the Personal Emotional Intelligence Profile (PEIP) assessment that I have included in this book forms a far broader spectrum of activities and interactions outside of the functions of just leadership and management, making it relevant to everyone, irrespective of their roles in life.

I have personally tested and proved each of the concepts detailed in this book, as I have been privileged to deliver this material internationally through over 1,500 unique workshops, which have, in turn, directly impacted more than 30,000 people.

Following my workshops, delegates have reported a significantly enriched understanding of themselves. They have noticed how improved communication has led to creating far less ambiguity surrounding their behaviours, as well as enabling them to provide clear and concise direction for others to follow.

Discovering your emotional intelligence is not a magic pill that will instantly change your life. I firmly believe that, like all developmental processes, it requires participation and ongoing regular practice.
