Uncovering our emotions

In the following section of this book, we are going to look specifically at our emotions. Sometimes, emotions can be tricky little blighters and, often, they are a bit uncomfortable. Sometimes, by pushing away our negative emotions and chasing after the positive ones, we miss out on what is right in front of us and miss out on fully living our lives. Through waking up to the reality of difficult and sometimes painful emotions, you will discover a fantastic sense of relief, clarity, productivity and well-being. In this section, you will also learn:

  • to notice your busyness, whatever you are doing;
  • to understand that you do not need to ‘run away’ from difficult emotions, and that running away can make life a whole lot more difficult;
  • to find ways of understanding what lies beneath your busyness;
  • how to accept difficult emotions as part of life;
  • that managing emotions with mindfulness releases lots of energy, productivity and mental clarity to help us to get ahead in life;
  • to recognise that you can continue to be busy and increase your effectiveness, efficiency and sense of ease when mindful of your difficult emotions;
  • to let go of fantasising about positive feelings and, instead, focus your energies on being grateful, being kind and being playful as ways to improve your well-being.
