About the Authors

Tarun Khanna is the Jorge Paulo Lemann professor at the Harvard Business School, where he has taught and researched strategy and international business in emerging markets worldwide since 1993. He serves on the boards of several companies and NGOs, and mentors startups in Asia. The World Economic Forum elected him a Young Global Leader (under forty) in 2007, and the Academy of International Business appointed him a Fellow in 2009.

Krishna G. Palepu is the Ross Graham Walker Professor and Senior Associate Dean for International Development at the Harvard Business School, where he currently oversees the school’s global activities in Asia, Europe, and Latin America. His research over the last fifteen years has focused on strategy and execution in emerging markets. His recent teaching activities at HBS include chairing the Global CEO program for China and Building Global Enterprises in India. He has worked extensively with top management teams in these areas both as a consultant and as a board member.

Richard J. Bullock worked as a research associate at Harvard Business School on case studies and other teaching materials related to emerging markets. He earned a master’s degree in international relations from Yale University, and a bachelor’s degree in politics from Princeton University. Prior to graduate school, he worked as a contributor and editor for the Economist Intelligence Unit publication Business China and taught English in China under the auspices of the Princeton in Asia program.
