Appendix. Sample User Community Deployment Messaging Material

This appendix covers the following topics:

This appendix provides sample messaging that you can use to get the word out to your user population on what NAC Appliance is, how to use it, and where to get help. This messaging is tailored for the education environment, but it can be easily tailored for use in other environments.

Sample NAC Appliance Requirement Change Notification E-Mail

This e-mail sample is meant to be sent out to the user community prior to the enforcement of a new requirement or check in NAC Appliance. This e-mail assumes that the Cisco NAC Appliance solution and agents have already been rolled out to and are in use by the user community. It is recommended that all new requirements be first rolled out as optional. After a set amount of time, the requirements should be made mandatory. Sending this e-mail should coincide with the implementation of the optional requirement. You should send a reminder prior to the requirements being made mandatory.

Sample NAC Appliance Letter to Students

This sample letter is intended to be added to a university's student handbook that is typically sent to students before the beginning of the new school year. The letter serves two purposes: to inform students about the NAC Appliance solution and to instruct students how to obtain the Clean Access Agent prior to arriving on campus.

Dear Student,
This letter is to inform you that the university's campus network is protected using a system called Cisco NAC Appliance, Clean Access. This security solution was put into place in an effort to decrease the threat posed by viruses and worms on the university's network. The vast majority of previous network outages or slowness can be attributed directly to the outbreak of a computer virus or worm. These outbreaks also resulted in the widespread damage or loss of data on student PCs. An effective method of combating these outbreaks is to ensure that every PC connecting to the network is running an up-to-date antivirus software package and has all the latest Windows security patches installed. The Cisco NAC Appliance security solution provides this capability to the university.
To be ready for the school year, you will need to download and install the Clean Access Agent on your Windows- or Mac-based computer. Please make every effort to install the agent prior to arriving on campus. This will help make your arrival go that much smoother. The agent is available for download at http://www.university.com/agent. Just follow the instructions provided to complete the simple installation. Should you have any questions or need technical assistance, please call the university help desk at 800-333-3333.
Thank you,
The ITD Staff
