An actor in a sequence diagram is very similar to an actor in a use case diagram. It could be a user, another system, or even a user group. An actor is not part of the system and executes commands externally. Different operations are executed upon receiving commands from users. The actor is denoted with a stick figure, as shown in the following diagram:
