Preface
This IBM® Redbooks® publication addresses topics to use the virtualization strengths of the IBM POWER8® platform to solve clients’ system resource utilization challenges and maximize systems’ throughput and capacity.
This book addresses performance tuning topics that will help answer clients’ complex analytic workload requirements, help maximize systems’ resources, and provide expert-level documentation to transfer the how-to-skills to the worldwide teams.
This book strengthens the position of IBM Analytics and Big Data solutions with a well-defined and documented deployment model within a POWER8 virtualized environment, offering clients a planned foundation for security, scaling, capacity, resilience, and optimization for analytics workloads.
This book is targeted toward technical professionals (analytics consultants, technical support staff, IT Architects, and IT Specialists) who are responsible for providing analytics solutions and support on IBM Power Systems™.
Authors
This book was produced by a team of specialists from around the world working at the International Technical Support Organization, Poughkeepsie Center.
Dino Quintero is a Complex Solutions Project Leader and an IBM Level 3 Certified Senior IT Specialist with the ITSO in Poughkeepsie, New York. His areas of knowledge include enterprise continuous availability, enterprise systems management, system virtualization, technical computing, and clustering solutions. He is an Open Group Distinguished IT Specialist. Dino holds a Master of Computing Information Systems degree and a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science from Marist College.
Kanako Harada is a Certified Customer Support Analyst in Japan. She has worked for IBM for seven years. She has 10 years experience in the business analytics and optimization field. During her career, she was certified on IBM Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS®) and on IBM Cognos® products (Business Intelligence and Financial Planning Management). Kanako holds a degree from Waseda University in Japan. She worked on many integration projects as a Project Manager, and also as an experienced Software Analyst to deliver real-time financial intelligence information for several international organizations.
Reinaldo Tetsuo Katahira is an Information Architect, working for the Client Innovation Center under IBM Global Business Services® (GBS) in Brazil. He is a Thought Leader Certified IT Specialist in Data Management by IBM, and he has DB2®, Oracle, and MS SQL Server certifications. Reinaldo holds a degree in Computer Engineering from the Escola Politecnica da Universidade de Sao Paulo. He has 18 years of experience in database management systems (DBMS) and over 10 years of experience working at IBM, where he filed patent applications that relate to optimization of relational DBMS.
Antonio Moreira de Oliveira Neto is a Client Technical Specialist, working in IBM Systems Hardware in Brazil for pre-sales technical advisory and architecture designs. He has seven years of experience with IBM. His technical expertise areas include IBM Power Systems, Server Virtualization, Infrastructure Architecture, Hybrid Cloud, and Analytics Architectures. He also has extensive experience designing architecture for highly virtualized and highly available environments. He holds a degree in Computer Engineering from Instituto Tecnológico de Aeronáutica (Sao Paulo, Brazil). He is an Expert Certified IT Specialist.
Robert Simon is a Senior Software Engineer for IBM Spectrum™ Scale. With IBM since 1987, Robert works in Software Support (Level 2) for VM, IBM AIX/ESA®, PSSP (HPC), IBM General Parallel File System (GPFS™), and GPFS Native RAID.
Brian Yaeger is an Advisory Software Engineer in the United States. He has eight years of experience in the field of software technical support at IBM and before that two years of experience as a computer technician. He holds an Associates degree in Computer Science from SUNY Dutchess, a Bachelors degree in Computer Science from Plattsburgh State University, and he is actively pursuing a Masters degree in Information Systems Management at Marist College (anticipated graduation 2016). His areas of expertise include clustered computing with Spectrum Scale on Linux.
