CHAPTER 14 Securing Personal and Business Communications
COMMUNICATION TODAY uses a wide variety of devices and technology, such as email, SMS, and voicemail. People communicate with these devices for both personal and business affairs. Security is necessary to ensure availability, integrity, and confidentiality of the devices and the content they transfer. Although many people believe their conversations, information, and messages are secure, that belief may not be well founded.
Different people have different expectations of how secure their communication needs to be, but the actual security required may be lower than most people think. This chapter differentiates the two communication transmission types, store-and-forward and real-time, and the devices and methods in each type. We also review the various communications threats to these devices and how to mitigate them.
