Chapter 24. Suggested Exercises

The Designing Active Directory exam requires you to make decisions based not only on technical knowledge of Windows 2000 and Active Directory, but also on business needs. To achieve proficiency in both the objective technical and subjective business sections of the test, you should try to work through some business consulting scenarios, ranging from small departmental planning to multinational corporate consulting.

Obviously, not everyone who is taking the certification exams has the opportunity to actually consult with such a wide range of businesses, so I’ve made a list of exercises that should help get you thinking about some of the situations you might run into on the tests.

Domain Naming

  1. Map out the geographical, divisional, and departmental structures for at least one small, medium, and large company.

  2. Create flow charts and determine the best hierarchical domain naming strategies for each of them.

  3. Visit http://www.networksolutions.com and go as far through the process of registering a domain name as you can without actually submitting the request.
