Chapter 17. Exam Overview

Windows 2000 includes a wide variety of networking features, some of which are not available in previous versions of Windows NT. MCSE Exam 70-216, Implementing and Administering a Microsoft Windows 2000 Network Infrastructure, focuses on the protocols and services used in Windows 2000 networks.

Remember that Microsoft requires real-world networking experience for the Windows 2000 MCSE exams. This exam is a particularly important case in point. You should have experience with all of the protocols and services described in this chapter, preferably on a large network.

There is some overlap in Microsoft’s objectives between the exams. We suggest that you review Part VI, in conjunction with this section.

To prepare for this chapter and the Network Infrastructure exam, you should be familiar with the basics of Windows 2000 Professional and Server, described in Part I and Part II of this book. You should also be familiar with the basics of networking, including cables, hubs, and such standards as Ethernet and Token Ring.
