Chapter 29. Suggested Exercises

Even more than most exams, the Designing series of MCSE exams require you to have real-world experience working with the issues they cover. Because the emphasis is often on larger networks, you may have to design conceptual networks if you do not have access to a large network to experiment with.

The following exercises will provide a framework for your preparations for the Designing a Microsoft Windows 2000 Network Infrastructure MCSE exam.

Designing a Network Infrastructure

Practice analyzing a company’s needs and existing infrastructure and designing a network. Ideally, use your network or a client’s as a model or arrange to visit a company and interview its IS personnel. Your analysis should include the following components:

  • Business requirements

  • Technical requirements

  • Existing network infrastructure

  • Planned upgrades, expansions, or changes
