Chapter 9. Suggested Exercises

The Windows 2000 Server exam requires you to be familiar with both the Windows 2000 operating system and how it can be used to manage a network environment. Previous experience managing a Windows NT network will be helpful, as will spending as much time as possible using the new features of Windows 2000 itself.

Hands-on experience is always the best way to really get to know an operating system well, and following these exercises will give you a structured approach as you get to know Windows 2000.

Installing Windows 2000 Server

  1. Install Windows 2000 Server using the installation CD on a single machine with a blank hard drive.

  2. Upgrade a Windows NT Server with Windows 2000. Verify which configurations remained in place.

  3. Perform an unattended installation using an answer file. Try to use either sysprep or syspart.

  4. Install Windows 2000 Server from a network share.
