This chapter covers installing wireless LAN components. It describes general wireless networking technologies and standards, wireless networking components, configuring a wireless LAN, and integrating a wireless and wired LAN.

SOHO networks use wireless LAN technology because it gets around the problem of wiring a home for the LAN. Wireless LAN technology works in SOHO LAN situations because the current wireless LAN technology can connect PC hosts to wireless LAN access points even when floors and walls separate them. Transmitting through floors and walls reduces the wireless LAN coverage from several hundred feet to less than 100 feet.
