PART 4

Bridging the Knowledge Gap

Here's a familiar tale: Companies look to implement something new in the business, such as a new technology or software, or a new management or reporting tool. This requires leaders and their teams to attend programs or workshops to learn what they need to do to implement the change and . . . they fail to do so. They may have tried to, even wanted to. But six months, six weeks, six days later, it's gone. What happened to all that knowledge? It fell into the “knowledge gap”: The space between knowing what to do and doing it.

Why this happens comes down to three things: a lack of will, lack of skill, and lack of coaching needed to create high-intensity environments and sustain them. Leaders in the middle with serve up/coach down mindsets can address all these things to bridge the knowledge gap.
