Introduction

This chapter reviews the administration tools for Crystal Enterprise, including best practices and other important information related to the management of the Crystal Enterprise system. Also covered are common system administration tasks such as adding new users, groups, folders, and reports, as well as configuring various Crystal Enterprise server components. The primary application for managing the Crystal Enterprise objects and components is the Crystal Management Console (CMC). A supplement to the Crystal Management Console is the Crystal Configuration Manager, a Windows-based application for managing certain server functions. The reason for a separate Crystal Configuration Manager is because the CMC is a Web-based management application. If the primary Web server to which Crystal Enterprise is tied were to become unavailable, the Crystal Configuration Manager provides backup server management capabilities.

NOTE

Although this chapter deals with the out-of-the-box Crystal Enterprise administrative functions, the Crystal Enterprise Software Development Kit provides programmatic access to the capability provided through the CMC.
