Almost always found is organizational Splunk deployments are Splunk components called forwarders. A forwarder is a component of Splunk which is used to send data to another Splunk instance. 

Within the forwarder arena, there are two kinds of forwarders which can be deployed, and since they offer different kinds of functionality, we will review them here.
