APPENDIX

Useful Implementation Tools

This appendix contains three worksheets you may find useful. All the forms are adapted from Harvard ManageMentor®, an online product of Harvard Business School Publishing. The Project Progress Report form can be downloaded without charge from the Harvard Business Essentials series Web site: www.elearning.hbsp.org/businesstools. Readers can freely access this and other worksheets, checklists, and interactive tools found on that site.

  1. Worksheet for Conducting a SWOT Analysis (figure A-1). The SWOT analysis, as described in chapters 1 and 2, is used by strategic planners to identify a company’s strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats. This worksheet can help you to be systematic in thinking about and evaluating these internal and external factors with respect to your company.
  2. Work Breakdown Structure (figure A-2). The work breakdown structure is borrowed from the art and science of project management and can be useful in strategy implementation. You can use this worksheet to deconstruct large tasks into their component parts and then estimate the time needed to complete each.
  3. Project Progress Report (figure A-3). Use this form to help assess progress, present this information to others, and think through next steps.
