Acknowledgments

For more than a decade, we have been working with colleagues at the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and at universities, developing materials on Green and Sustainable Engineering. The collaborations have included textbook development, short course offerings, creation of educational modules, and benchmarking activities. This textbook is the latest product of that collaboration, so while it bears our names as authors, it would not have been possible without the support of our colleagues at the EPA and other collaborators who have worked with us on these initiatives. Individual chapters acknowledge collaborators who assisted in the development of specific materials on which the material in this text is based, but overall guidance for this decade-long effort came from Sharon Austin and Nhan Nguyen in the Office of Pollution Prevention and Toxics at the EPA and from Bernard Goodwin at Prentice Hall. We are grateful for their leadership and vision. We also thank our peers, who reviewed drafts of the manuscript, and our students, whose questions helped us refine and clarify our work.
