his own consulting firm. Concentrating his efforts in the general field of metrology, he developed
a program in Measurements System Engineering at ASU that gained international interest. He
played a fundamental role in one of the more important topics of SESA-SEM, the bonded
strain gage, and was an outstanding member of the Western Regional Strain Gage Committee
(WRSGC), a Technical Division of the National Society for Experimental Mechanics.
After reviewing the most important periods in the past and providing information about
the most influencial individuals that shaped the SESA/SEM, let us review subsequent periods
of evolution of the Society and what C.E. Taylor called connections—the interaction between
individuals and institutions.
