Acknowledgments

You are reading this book because many people—family, friends, colleagues—have offered their support, insight, time to make it a reality. I owe them a debt of gratitude.

I would like to thank Cheryl Enman, my friend and co-worker, for reading, rereading, then reading once again various drafts of this book. It is thanks to Cheryl’s skill with word processing and other software programs that formatting and illustrations are consistent and clear. She was also willing to accept that when it comes to commas, there is no common ground.

My appreciation also goes out to Rand Gaynor and Catherine Harrop, friends and colleagues, who served as readers for this book before it was submitted to the publisher. Working willingly under a tight deadline, they provided thoughtful, detailed, and gentle feedback that made the book better.

On a personal note, I would like to thank my husband, Allan Kindervater, for his continued patience and support. I have an ongoing attachment to my laptop and a lifetime love of language, both of which can often get in the way of daily routines and plans. He has never complained. Indeed, he has encouraged me to pursue my passions. Always.

I have been blessed to have lifelong support from my parents, Fred and Myrtle Moulton. My mother taught me at an early age about the wonder and joy of words that I still savor today. Both my parents made it clear, without ever having to use words, that whatever I wanted to do with my life had their full, utter, and complete blessing. Such unconditional support is the foundation for a life full of wonder. And words.
