Appendix IV.
Parameter Settings for Model Runs
Note: Some runs are simple variations on these, including alterations in a specific procedure. In these cases, the code variants are given in the text.
a There are a number of ways to arrange this. One is to comment out the move-turtles routine from the “go” procedure and set the threshold to 20, for example, to suppress any reaction.
b In this animation, weights purely determine graphical link thickness.
c Probability of Patch activation: 96/1000 = 0.096. Probability of de-activation is 8/100 = .08
d Heterogeneity across these agent parameters affects the order and timing of agent actions.
e Rather than destroy to radius 2, fight, the action is to move 1 patch in the (–12, –12) direction.
f If Disposition exceeds threshold, move immediately to (–9, –9)
g All initial weights are zero for runs 10–12
h The attack and deactivation rates differ in the pre-trial, courtroom, and jury chamber phases, see code.
i Agents occupy different positions in the three phases.
j Unlike all the other rows, this adds the link_threshold of 0.2.
k Initial attack_rate setting is 300, but activation occurs only if attack_rate • sin (ticks) /10 < a random number < 1000. Deactivation is at 0.08.
