It Isn’t Just Humans…

Well, you’ve made it through a venerable feast of concepts and ideas that may cause some very frustrating days as a manager. But you’re well equipped to deal with those challenges.

Here’s what you’ve learned:

  • That you will face scrutiny and judgment, and you will feel it toward others as well.

  • That bad situations create wobble, and that the higher up in the org chart that they occur, the worse the effects on everyone else.

  • That others may want you to apply the whip to make your team work harder and faster; however, you need to reframe that into the carrot that makes your team autonomously drive themselves forward.

  • That we’re all subject to the Dunning-Kruger effect and impostor syndrome. You’ve learned how to spot it and what to do in those situations.

Now, if the humans being hard wasn’t enough, then guess what? The projects themselves can be hard too. Let’s look at that in the next chapter.
