About the Authors

DAVID C. THOMAS is the Beedie Professor of International Management at Simon Fraser University, Vancouver, Canada. He is the author of ten books, including Essentials of International Human Resource Management: Managing People Globally (with Mila Lazarova). His book Cross-Cultural Management: Essential Concepts, from SAGE Publications was the winner of the R. Wayne Pace Human Resource Development Book of the Year award for 2008. In addition, he has recently edited (with Peter B. Smith and Mark Peterson) The Handbook of Cross-Cultural Management Research, also from SAGE Publications. His research on cross-cultural interactions in organizational settings has taken him around the world, and articles based on that research have appeared in numerous journals. He has lived and worked in Australia, New Zealand, Turkey, Hong Kong, France, Canada, and the United States. In addition to teaching at both the undergraduate and postgraduate levels, Dave has developed executive education programs in Australia, New Zealand, Canada, and the United States and has served as a consultant on cultural diversity issues to a number of multinational firms and government agencies. KERR INKSON is an Emeritus Professor and Research Advisor (part-time) at the University of Auckland, New Zealand and is semi-retired. He is the author, co-author, or co-editor of twenty books, including Theory K, The New Careers, Career Studies, Understanding Careers, Managing Expatriates, and Cultural Intelligence; 75 refereed journal articles; and over 50 book chapters. His recent research has focused mainly on careers, including international careers and metaphorical representations of career. He has held academic positions in New Zealand, the United Kingdom, and the United States. He has served as a professor of management at five of New Zealand’s universities and has extensive experience in consulting and executive education, including a term as director of an Executive MBA program. He runs his own small academic editing business and leads retreats and workshops enabling PhD students in business studies to improve their writing skills. Kerr lives in Auckland and is active in amateur drama.
