The kingfisher’s body is similar to the sparrow, but it has a larger head and a longer beak. After drawing the feathers in pale blue, you can really bring out the pattern by layering more colors.
Kingfisher’s body

Colored pencils used for kingfisher
Lightly sketch the body, using medium blue for the head and wing, midnight gray for the beak, and black for the eye. With the salmon pink pencil, draw the pattern on the face and color in the belly.
In baby blue, draw the underlying dotted pattern on the head and wing. Be sure to press down firmly.
Make the dotted pattern pop by lightly coloring over it with blue.
Layer the coloring of the blue parts using turquoise and then layer the upper wing and undertail with midnight gray.
Draw the legs and feet with deep red and the claws with black.
Color in the belly using orangish yellow, then again with salmon pink. By layering different colors this way, you can create a sense of lightness.
