This section shifts focus to the family. It highlights a realm of activity that is private and unique to a family enterprise: the organization, governance, and activity of the family separate from the business. It begins with Chapter 9, which talks about the nature of the unique family “tribes” that compose generative families, and how they gather in the form of a family assembly, which is the beginning of family governance.

Each chapter that follows describes a key element of family governance, including the family council, owners' groups, and the board, and finally, in Chapter 12, how they are all tied together in a family constitution, a master agreement that defines who the family is, what it does, and how it works.
