Besides a few buttons, most of the chatbots in earlier parts of this book were largely text. This makes sense because of the conversational nature of chatbots. However, there’s a case to be made for some graphical user interface (GUI) interaction and now you’ll see how that’s possible. Since a large part of this book is about creating multi-channel chatbots, you’ll also learn how top configure and use those channels.

Chapter 10 , Attaching Cards focuses heavily on adding GUI to a chatbot. The chapter is a hat tip to the underlying technology for how to add GUI to a message to a user, via attachments. The next two chapters explain how to configure channels. Chapter 11, Configuring Channels covers the general topic of channel configuration, including a few typical channels that you might want to surface a chatbot on. Chapter 12, Creating Email, SMS, and Web Chatbots, shows how to configure channels that don’t fit into the traditional messaging app channel.

After completing this part of the book, you’ll know what GUI elements are available to enhance interaction and offer multi-media to users. You’ll also know how to configure both messaging app and other types of channels.
