Summary

In this chapter, we learned about another form of API that we can use for developing mobile applications and web application frontends. We reviewed two methods of implementation, both with varying degrees of flexibility and management. After reading this chapter, you should now have the knowledge to get started experimenting or following a tutorial that steps you through the setup process.

Thank you for reading this book through to the final chapter! I hope you have learned many new skills using serverless and that your brain is so full that you can't wait to start implementing some of your ideas. Here is an overview of what we have covered throughout the chapters:

  • Understanding the evolution of compute and how the function came about
  • Introduction to the event-driven mindset behind serverless and cloud computing
  • Learning about how functions as a service work in AWS using Lambda, including a deep dive into the more advanced topics
  • Adding API Gateway to our solutions to enable more management and control
  • Using Serverless Framework to manage the lifecycle of our serverless projects, and then learning about how to integrate this workflow into a CI/CD pipeline
  • Finding out how AWS has enabled a different breed of automation
  • How to run ETL processes to move and transform data in AWS
  • Building our own chatbots that integrate with other tools
  • How to host a serverless single-page web application
  • Learning about GraphQL APIs and how they can benefit our frontends

The time now is yours: go build something awesome!
