Kodak Should Have Kept the Shutter Open

I was attending a Kodak sales meeting circa 1999 when I heard a seasoned Kodak executive addressing a group of shaken salespeople. They were feeling shaken because they were getting a lot of heat from their customers about “digital photography.” Kodak's customers were scared that the future of photo labs might be in jeopardy. I nearly popped a contact lens when I heard an executive blurt, “I know a lot of you are [becoming] concerned about digital photography—but don't be. It's just a fad that will interest early adopters.”
